Eleven young scientists have received the National Research Foundation's (NRF) fellowship. The NRF Fellowship will provide each fellow with up to S$3 million in research funding support over five years to perform cutting-edge research in Singapore.

These scientists are currently doing research as post-doctoral fellows in top universities such as MIT, Caltech, Stanford and Imperial College. One of the recipients, Dr Emma Hill, is from the United States and currently an Assistant Professor at the Earth Observatory of Singapore.

This is to conduct cutting-edge work in areas like developing whole new types of metal/ceramic composite materials and finding new ways to cure leukaemia.

An example is Dr Lok Shee Mei of Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, whose research focuses on the development of a suitable vaccine for dengue.
